Luka's Story
Meet Luka. He started Kindergarten at Wellington Public School in 2023.
His Dad Peter would like to share Luka’s story as he is overwhelmed with the support he has received since Luka was detected as having glue ear with moderate hearing loss when we tested him late term 3 2022. The power of dependable partnerships has allowed this to happen for little Luka. Rewind to when visiting Audiologist from NextSense Kim Ter-Horst tested him with us at school. Given Luka’s speech delay, Kim was concerned and referred him immediately to the Department Of Education supported Ear Specialist program as well as Australian Hearing. In October he attended the ear specialist and was booked for ear surgery, with a 12 month wait. After Christmas he attended Hearing Australia with support and was eligible for a bone conduction hearing aid. We referred him to Department of Education Hearing Support Teachers who successfully applied for 12 months specialist Teacher of the Deaf support at school for Luka. In February of 2023 we heard from Luka’s dad Peter who was so excited at the improvements Luka had been making since he had his hearing aid fitted 2 weeks prior. Peter is beyond thankful for all the help he has received for Luka and is proud to share his story. He would also like to acknowledge that he is so shocked that our wonderful service does not receive government funding. He said he would be very happy to help with fundraising in his home town of Wellington. |
