Camari's Story

Picture
Hear our heart have helped Camari a lot over the years and without their amazing work we wouldn’t have ever known about Camari’s hearing loss!

When Camari was younger she never got ear infections but if we would go for a check up the doctors always said her ears are red but there is no fluid/infection so get them checked in 3 months.

I’m so glad that the Hear our Heart bus came to Peppercorn Childcare Centre regularly as that is how her hearing loss was picked up. From the age of 2 Camari would get her ears tested/checked from the bus. In 2019 they picked up that she retains a lot of fluid and her ears weren’t draining properly. From there the beautiful Rachel Mills and the Hear our Heart team helped me get Camari into our local ENT who referred us to Hearing Australia to get a bone conductor hearing aid whilst we waited on her ENT surgery.

Camari had surgery in 2020 and it seemed to be working for her with the grommets in place and she was able to continue her everyday life without her bone conductor hearing aid. With the help of the Hear our Heart team and constant ear testing we discovered in 2022 that she needed another set of grommets and in turn the bone conductor hearing aid once again!

From the years of 2020 till today Camari has had to have intensive speech sessions to regain the speech she had lost when she couldn’t hear!
I’m so grateful for the work the Hear our Heart team put in with not only my child but every child. I am a childcare worker at Peppercorn and to see all the little lives that the Hear our Heart project help is just amazing!
